Walmart Ranks No. 1 in NRF's Top 100 Retailers
July 02, 2010
The National Retail Federation (NRF) has announced the results of its annual ranking of the nation’s Top 100 Retailers in STORES Magazine. Remaining unchanged from last year, Walmart claimed the No. 1 spot, followed by Kroger coming in second. Target climbed from No. 5 last year to No. 3 this year, followed by Walgreens (No. 4), Home Depot (No. 5), Costco (No. 6), CVS (No. 7), Lowe's (No. 8), Sears Holdings (No. 9) and Best Buy (No. 10).
Additionally, IKEA North America made its Top 100 debut this year, coming in at No. 92. Discount and dollar stores made notable gains this year, with Dollar General leaping seven spots to No. 28, Family Dollar rising to No. 45 from No. 56 in 2009, and Dollar Tree rising 15 places to No. 61.
The Top 100 Retailers are ranked by U.S. retail sales, rather than overall corporate revenues. Additional changes include the elimination (in most instances) of gasoline/fueling stations and other non-retail sales. This year’s Top 100 Retailers list was compiled and analyzed by Kantar Retail.
