Wal-Mart Unveils Hispanic Concept Store
May 13, 2009
Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is readying a new concept store, Supermercado de Walmart, aimed squarely at the needs of Hispanic consumers, according to Brandweek.com. The new concept will carry specialty foods, as well as an in-store cocina (kitchen) where families can dine. The Supermercado de Walmart is an evolution of the retailer's ongoing efforts to be more relevant to its Hispanic customers. Through Wal-Mart's store-of-the-community program, stores are merchandised to meet the diverse needs of local customers in each community. The 39,000-sq.-ft. Supermercado store will carry about 13,000 products, including an assortment of fresh tropical fruits and vegetables, as well as a bakery that offers more than 40 traditional sweet breads and fresh corn tortillas. The store's meat department will feature specialty meats, such as milanesa, diezmillo, fajitas, chuleta de cerdo, carnes marinadas and arrachera, designed to meet the specific preferences of local Hispanic customers. In addition, the store will feature a pharmacy with hundreds of $4 prescriptions, health and beauty aids, a Walmart MoneyCenter, a baby center and a party center.
