Costco to Add Solar Power to New Jersey Store
May 20, 2009
Issaquah, Wash.-based Costco Wholesale Corp. has awarded a contract to Solar Power Inc. to design and install a solar power system at the company's Hazlet, N.J., retail store. Solar Power will design and install a 500-kilowatt AC system, which will utilize new Solyndra panels that depart from traditional silicon-based technology. Solyndra panels' cylindrical modules capture sunlight across a 360-degree photovoltaic (PV) surface capable of converting direct, indirect, and reflected sunlight from the roof's surface into electricity. The installation will be the largest commercial PV solar system to date that incorporates Solyndra panels. The system will use 3,300 173-watt Solyndra panels and a 500-kilowatt Advanced Energy inverter. The installation is scheduled for completion at the beginning of the third quarter of 2009.
